ESL2061B/ESL2061A English 10B for EMLs I

0.5 credit per semester

This English-credit course is recommended for students who are identified as EMLs and have been in the United States for less than two years with a WIDA Screener or ACCESS Score of 1.0-1.7. English 10 builds on the skills developed in English 9 and prepares students for college, careers, and civic life by strengthening their ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage thoughtfully with complex ideas. Through the study of literary and informational texts and media, students continue to build knowledge, analyze arguments and perspectives, collaborate with peers, and develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Instruction is aligned to the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and emphasizes meaningful engagement with texts and ideas through discussion, inquiry, and evidence-based writing. The course provides opportunities for all learners to engage with grade-level coursework while offering differentiation, support, and extensions to meet students’ individual learning needs and strengths.
