ESL2066A/ESL2066B English 9A for EMLs III

0.5 credit per semester

This English-credit course is recommended students who are identified as EMLs and have been in the United States for less than two years with a WIDA Screener or ACCESS Score of 3.0-3.5 OR who have been in the United States for more than 2 years with a score of 12.6-3.5. It is designed to prepare students for success in high school, college, and future careers by strengthening their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. Through the study of literary and informational texts and media, students build knowledge, analyze ideas and arguments, collaborate with peers, and communicate effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences. Instruction is aligned to the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and emphasizes deep understanding of content rather than broad coverage of topics. The course provides opportunities for all learners to engage with grade-level coursework while offering support, differentiation, and extensions to meet students’ individual learning needs and strengths.
