2026 - 2027 High School Course Catalog
English Language Development (ELD) Program
The English Language Development (ELD) program provides high-quality English language development instruction aligned to grade-level content standards across English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These courses focus on helping students develop the academic language proficiency needed to be able to engage with content knowledge, skills, and processes while effectively using language to interpret and express their learning in all core subject classes
These courses are designed for the development of academic English through listening, reading, speaking and writing. Students learn how to apply functional language to effectively make sense of learning and communicate in grade-level core content classes.
Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) will be scheduled into English classes designed to meet their level of academic language proficiency including EML-only, co-taught single and double periods. Students performing at ELP 1 or ELP 2, receive an additional Designated ELD class (Seminar) to receive intensive ELD. The English Language Proficiency (ELP) levels are directly correlated with the ELP levels 1.0-4.4 on the WIDA ACCESS test.
